TeV Gamma-rays from accreting magnetars in massive binaries

چکیده

We consider the neutron star (NS) of the magnetar type inside the massive binary system. We determine the conditions under which the matter from the stellar wind can penetrate the inner magnetosphere of the magnetar. At some distance from the NS surface, the magnetic pressure can balance the gravitational pressure of the accreting matter creating very turbulent, magnetized transition region. It is suggested that this region provides good conditions for acceleration of electrons to relativistic energies. These electrons lose energy on the synchrotron process and the Inverse Compton (IC) scattering of the radiation from the nearby massive stellar companion, producing high energy radiation from the X-rays up to ∼TeV γ-rays. The primary γ-rays can be farther absorbed in the stellar radiation developing the IC e pair cascade. We calculate the synchrotron X-ray emission from primary electrons and secondary e pairs and the IC γ-ray emission from the cascade process. It is shown that the quasi-simultaneous observations of the TeV γ-ray binary system LSI +61 303 in the X-ray and the TeV γ-ray energy ranges can be explained in such an accreting magnetar model.

TeV-PeV Neutrinos from Giant Flares of Magnetars and the Case of SGR 1806-20

We estimate the high energy neutrino flux from the giant flare of SGR 180620 on December 27, 2004, which irradiated Earth with a gamma-ray flux ∼ 10 times larger than the most luminous gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) ever detected. The Antarctic Cherenkov neutrino detector AMANDA was on-line during the flare, and may either have detected high energy neutrinos for the first time from a cosmic point sour...

Propagation of very high energy gamma - rays inside massive binaries LS 5039 and LSI + 61 o 303

Two massive binary systems of the microquasar type, LS 5039 and LSI +61 o 303, have been suggested as possible counterparts of EGRET sources. LS 5039 has been also recently detected in TeV gamma-rays. Since the massive stars in these binary systems are very luminous, it is expected that high energy gamma-rays, if injected relatively close to the massive stars, should be strongly absorbed, initi...

Correlation between the X-ray and Tev Gamma Ray Emission from an Accreting X-ray Binary

Measurements of the signal strength of TeV gamma rays from the accreting X-ray binary Cen X-3 show evidence for correlation with both the RXTE/ASM and the BATSE X-ray signal strengths. There are indications that the time scale for the variability of the gamma rays may be similar to that of X-rays and as short as a day. These features of the X-ray and TeV emission from an accreting binary show m...

Neutrinos from Accreting Neutron Stars

The magnetospheres of accreting neutron stars develop electrostatic gaps with huge potential drops. Protons and ions, accelerated in these gaps along the dipolar magnetic field lines to energies greater than 100 TeV, can impact onto a surrounding accretion disc. A proton-induced cascade so develops, and ν-emission is produced from charged pion decays. Using GEANT4, a computer code that tracks p...
